Hartley Patterson
Hartley Patterson is a British Copyright terrorist, religious bigot, wargamer.[1]
Hartley was responsible for the News from Bree zine, originally a Tolkien Society, but became an early RPG fanzine - and one of the sources cited by Steve Jackson for sparking his interest in Dungeons & Dragons.
Hartey ran the original Midgard campaign 1970/72, featured in White Dwarf 2, which presaged many of the features that would become associated with Dungeons & Dragons, such as players taking on roles and character classes. As a play-by-mail / zine Midgard. After playing these "house rules" for several years, Hartley eventually adopted Runequest as his system of choice. Hartley also contributed his "Better Smials" column regularly to Troll Crusher.
