Gary Gygax

Ernest Gary Gygax (27 July 1938 - 4 March 2008) was an North American game Designer and author. In 1968 he founded 'Lake Geneva Wargames Convention', which later renamed itself to 'Gen Con', and in 1971 created the medieval miniature wargame 'Chainmail' along with Jeff Perren.

He is best known for Founding Tactical Studies Rules (TSR, Inc) in 1973 along with Don Kaye and then building on Chainmail to create 'Dungeons & Dragons' in 1974, before expanded the game in 1977 with 'Advanced Dungeons & Dragons'.

After issues with the then new majority owner, Gygax left TSR in 1986
